Wind-driven Currents in a Sea with a Variable Eddy Viscosity Calculated via a Sinc-galerkin Technique

چکیده
The Sinc-Galerkin method is presented as a new and potentially useful extension of the spectral method in numerical oceanography. To describe and illustrate the technique , a Sinc-Galerkin procedure is used to infer the sensitivity of wind-driven subsur-face currents in coastal regions and semi-enclosed seas when the vertical eddy viscosity coeecient is represented as a continuously diierentiable function of depth. Problems with exact solutions are used to explore the accuracy and exponential convergence of expansions using composite translated sinc functions as a basis set. To illustrate the essential idea, we describe applications of the Sinc-Galerkin technique to modiications of the Ekman wind-drift current problem.

An Application of the Sinc-Collocation Method to a Three-Dimensional Oceanography Model
In this paper, we explore the applicability of the SincCollocation method to a three-dimensional (3D) oceanography model. The model describes a wind-driven current with depth-dependent eddy viscosity in the complex-velocity system. In general, the Sinc-based methods excel over other traditional numerical methods due to their exponentially decaying errors, rapid convergence and handling problems...

In this paper, the application of a Sinc-Collocation approach based on first derivative interpolation in numerical oceanography is presented. The specific model of interest involves a hydrodynamic model of wind-driven currents in coastal regions and semi-enclosed seas with depth-dependent vertical eddy viscosity. The model is formulated in two different but equivalent systems; a complex-velocit...

A block matrix formulation is presented for the Sinc-Galerkin technique applied to the wind-driven current problem from oceanography. The block matrix form is used to determine an approximate solution for the coupled system of differential equations describing the wind-driven current problem. The approximate solution determined by this new Sinc-Galerkin scheme is compared to the approximate sol...

This paper focuses on a hydraulic radius separation approach used to calculate the boundary shear stress in terms of bed and wall shear stress proposed in a trapezoidal channel. The average bed and sidewall shear stress in smooth trapezoidal open channels are derived after using Guo & Julien (2005) early equations taking a part of an investigation to cover both rectangular and trapezoidal chann...
